Tiago Monteiro near Jordan

According to some newspapers Tiago Monteiro is as close as ever to enter Jordan's F1 team.

The fact that Midland Group bought Jordan (which was in a very tricky finatial situation) allowed the team to sign pilots based on what they are worth driving instead of what they are worth in money.

Tiago Monteiro is known to be highly apreciated by Midland's boss Trevor Carlin after a successfull season at Midland's World Series by Nissan team.

A possibilidade de Tiago Monteiro garantir um volante na Fórmula 1 já nesta temporada ganhou, nos últimos dias, novos contornos - muito consistentes - com o compromisso de compra da Jordan por parte do Midland Group.

ITV: Monteiro to Jordan?

There has been no confirmation of a deal from Jordan, but the Portuguese media are building themselves up into a frenzy at the prospect of their first F1 driver since Pedro Lamy a decade ago.

Like Karthikeyan, Monteiro has close links with Trevor Carlin, sporting director of the Midland Group that recently bought Jordan, having driven for him in the 2004 World Series by Nissan. He amassed five victories and finished as runner-up to champion (and ITV-F1 columnist) Heikki Kovalainen.

Update: Record seems to confirm the deal.
